Fabric & Care Guide
Every fabric behaves a little differently. Follow these notes and your garment will hold its shape, colour and finish for years — most damage to made-to-measure clothing comes from the wrong wash, not wear.
Silk (Banarasi & Raw Silk)
| Wash | Dry-clean only. Never machine wash or soak. |
| Iron | Low heat, inside out, or steam from a distance — direct heat can leave a shine mark. |
| Storage | Hang on a padded hanger, in a breathable cotton cover — not sealed plastic, which traps moisture. |
| Watch out for | Perfume and deodorant contact — silk stains easily and the mark is often permanent. |
Wool Blend
| Wash | Dry-clean recommended. Air out after each wear instead of washing every time. |
| Iron | Medium heat with a damp cloth between the iron and fabric. |
| Storage | Hang, never fold for long periods — wool holds creases. Use cedar blocks, not mothballs. |
| Watch out for | Direct sunlight for extended periods — it fades wool faster than most fabrics. |
Premium Cotton
| Wash | Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Turn dark colours inside out to protect the dye. |
| Iron | Medium-high heat while still slightly damp for the crispest finish. |
| Storage | Fold or hang — cotton is forgiving either way. |
| Watch out for | Shrinkage on the first wash — this is accounted for in our cutting, so don't pre-shrink it yourself. |
Linen
| Wash | Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or hand wash for best results. |
| Iron | High heat while damp — linen wrinkles by nature; a few soft creases are part of the look. |
| Storage | Hang loosely. Avoid tight folding, which sets sharp permanent creases. |
| Watch out for | Over-drying — linen becomes brittle in a hot dryer. Line-dry when possible. |
General rule for every made-to-measure piece
For the first wash or dry-clean, go to a trusted cleaner and mention the fabric type from your invoice. Store buttons, hooks and zippers closed when hanging, and let the garment air out for a few hours after wear before putting it away — this alone extends the life of most fabrics significantly.
